The creative crossover from photography, painting and into clay has encouraged me to think about the relationships between the three mediums and how they can influence each other.

Using hand-build methods, I love to shape and carve an object then distress the surface by adding/subtracting layers of stains, oxides, engobes and glazes.

Inspiration for me comes from photographing and painting the landscapes of Victoria.

Another point of inspiration comes from contemporary architecture and the Brutalist movement of the 1950s to 70s. Observing architectural shapes and simplifying them by carving out small forms and grouping them into miniature assemblages. The relationships between forms, the shadows they cast, the positive and negative space: all interest me.
